Harriet Vine and Rosie Wolfenden, founders of the brand have been making jewellery since 1999 and have developed something of a cult following for their fun statement fashion accessories. The duo met at Chelsea School Of Art’s whilst on a Fine Art degree course. They then began making jewellery at their studio in East London where they still make their distinctive jewellery and fashion accessories now. Their first collection was made using bags of leather samples that they found on the street one night. They made them into leather wrist cuffs to sell on the London markets including Portobello and Spitalfields. Their accessories were soon selling out but their big break came when their first collection was shot for the Millennium issue of Vogue. Their aim is to make jewellery that blurs the boundaries between art, fashion and culture.
In 2001, they were the first fashion brand to open a boutique in Brick Lane in London. It was recently named as the ”Best Small and Beautiful Shop” by Time Out and ”Best for Women’s Fashion” in The Telegraph’s ‘Best Small Shops in Britain’ awards. Some of their best sellers are the perspex necklaces personalised with the wearers name. The brand has quickly grown from its humble beginnings and now has over 300 stockists worldwide.
Whilst it is their perspex jewellery that they are most famous for, they also make fashion accessories from fabric, wood, leather, veneer, enamel including necklaces, rings, earrings, brooches and bracelets.
The forward thinking accessories brand has had a number of notable collaborations including avant-garde girl group Chicks on Speed, Louise Gray and Peter Jensen. They have also produced exclusive pieces for Tate, the Victoria & Albert Museum and Selfridges.
Despite their amazing success around the world, the brand continues to fly the flag for British fashion and keep their manufacturing in the UK. They also stick to their original motivation to keep the fun in fashion.
For Spring Summer 2013, we are loving the Lotus Flower Necklace, the Goddess Sunrise Necklace and the hothouse butterfly brooch and the Tortoise ring. We still have some amazing bargains in the Tatty Devine sale including the leopard head necklace, the lady and dog brooch and white posy bracelet.
